SCHOOL CALENDAR
Coursework at The Performance
School is divided between two terms: Fall Term, from September through
January, and Spring Term, from February through June. Intensive weekend
workshops will be held several times during the school year. Each
workshop will be 12 hours duration, divided between Saturday and Sunday.
Students are expected to attend each
of the scheduled Teacher Training Workshops. Attendance is
vitally important, both for continuity in your learning of the
principles of the Alexander Technique and how to apply them yourself,
and for the interchange and learning that happens when we discuss
Alexander's writings, ethics, anatomy and other topics.
Dates for 2007--2008 are: October 13
& 14,
2007; January 19 & 20; March 8 & 9; April 19 &
20; June
14 & 15, 2008. (These dates are subject to
change). All day Saturday workshops will be
available alternate months from Performance School Faculty.
See Events
page for that schedule.
If you are interested in
training at
The Performance School, please contact us.
TUITION PAYMENTS
Tuition for each workshop is $225.
Payment for each workshop is due a month in advance. While
tuition may be increased from time to time, the new tuition rate will
apply to new students only. Tuition will not increase for continuing
students, i.e. students who are continuously enrolled in The
Performance School Teacher Education Program. If a student withdraws,
or takes a leave of absence and then returns to the Program, they are
considered a new student for the purposes of determining tuition.
Tuition for any additional workshops (for example a week long
summer intensive) is in addition to the tuition for the weekend teacher
training intensive workshops.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Admission to The Performance School requires from applicants:
1. commitment to intensive training;
2. commitment to personal growth, exploration and a willingness to
change;
3. sufficient experience with Alexander’s principles to be
able to make an informed decision regarding an intensive teacher
training program.
Admission to the School is dependent upon a mutual assessment by the
applicant and the faculty as to whether or not the applicant can
satisfactorily complete the Teacher Training Program and whether The
Performance School is the appropriate place for the applicant.
To apply, please complete the Application
Form and mail a check for a $25
non-refundable application fee to The Performance School, 6836 21st
Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115.
FACULTY ADVISING
Each student, after meeting all the faculty, will choose a faculty
advisor who will be the student’s primary mentor for the
year. The faculty advisor will help the student coordinate their
independent study throughout the year and be available to discuss any
topics or questions a student may wish to discuss between workshops.
ABOUT
SEATTLE
Seattle is a beautiful city with a wide variety of cultural and
recreational opportunities. The city is internationally known for its
arts community, with several professional and community theatres, dance
companies, orchestras, opera musicians, folk artists and craftspeople.
Its excellent public transportation system and bike trails provide easy
access to any place or event in the city. There are lakes for sailing,
swimming and wind surfing, and mountains nearby for hiking, climbing

REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICIES
Refunds Prior To Commencing Training
1. An applicant withdrawing no later than midnight on the third day
(excluding Sundays and holidays) after registering or making an initial
payment, will receive a full refund of tuition and fees paid if the
applicant has not commenced training. 2. After three business days
(excluding Sundays and holidays) the school may retain an established
registration fee equal to ten percent of the total tuition cost, or one
hundred dollars, whichever is less. "Registration fee" refers to any
fee, however named, covering those expenses incurred by an institution
in processing student applications and establishing a student records
system.
Refunds After Commencing Training
1. A student withdrawing during the first workshop of any term, or ten
percent of contracted instructional time, whichever is less, forfeits
the registration fee, plus 10% of tuition. 2. A student withdrawing
after the first workshop of any term or ten percent of instruction,
whichever is less, but prior to completion of twenty-five percent of
contracted instructional time, forfeits the registration fee plus 25%
of tuition. 3. A student withdrawing after completion of twenty-five
percent but prior to completion of fifty percent of contracted
instructional time for any term forfeits the registration fee plus 50%
of tuition. 4. A student withdrawing after completion of more than
fifty percent of contracted instructional time for any term, forfeits
the full tuition amount. 5. If the School fails to fulfill its
obligation to complete any program of instruction after training of
students has begun for any term, the students enrolled are entitled to
a refund of all tuition and fees paid for that term. Requests for
refunds must be made in writing by the enrolled student within 30 days
of discontinuation of the program. Money due the student shall be
refunded within 30 days of receipt of request.
OFFICIAL
TERMINATION DATE
The official date of termination of a student
shall be the last date of recorded attendance when withdrawal occurs in
any of the following manners:
1. when the school receives written notice of the student’s
intention to discontinue the training program; or,
2. when the student is terminated for a violation of a published school
policy which provides for termination; or,
3. when a student, without written notice to the institution, fails to
attend two consecutive monthly workshops.
TERMINATION BY THE
SCHOOL
A student who fails to maintain satisfactory
progress, violates safety regulations, interferes with other
student’s work, is boisterous, vulgar or obscene, under the
influence of alcohol or drugs, or does not make timely tuition payments
is subject to immediate termination.
CANCELLATION OF CLASSES
The school reserves the right to
cancel a monthly workshop if the
number of students enrolling is deemed insufficient. Such cancellation
will be considered a rejection by the school and the student is
entitled to a full refund of all money paid. The school reserves the
right to suspend, cancel or postpone a class or classes after training
has begun in the event of an occurrence that unavoidably limits the use
of school facilities such as fire, flood, storm, earthquake, war or
civil disorder. In such case a pro-rata refund will be made of any fees
or tuition prepaid by the student, unless the student elects to
continue the training in a later class.
WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION
Withdrawal notification may be made
by phone or
email, but must be confirmed by a written letter for the withdrawal to
be considered an official withdrawal. The postmark on the letter will
be used as the effective date of the official withdrawal.
ABSENCE FROM CLASS
If a student finds that they are
not able to
attend a scheduled workshop, they must inform the faculty as soon as
possible. Every effort will be made to insure that the student is able
to make up the missed work. This may include taping parts of the
workshop for the student to review on their own, scheduling out of
workshop lesson time with the student, and/or meeting to discuss topics
from that month’s workshop. However, tuition is considered
paid for the entire term, and refunds will not be given for missed
class time.
NON DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT
The
Performance School does not discriminate on the basis of race,
sex, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation in hiring faculty or
staff,
or in accepting students to our programs.
